Confessionals in Lagos

Story time: I ghosted my own surprise party by accident

so my friends planned this for two months and that same day i decided i needed a quiet evening alone, put my phone on do not disturb, went to the cinema by myself and felt at peace, and i came out to 43 missed calls and a photo of twenty people in my sitting room around a cake with my face on it, all looking at the door. my flatmate's message just said they're still here. got home 11:20. they sang anyway. tired. in one key. best birthday of my life and i think about the 43 calls every day
