Help and FAQ
Short answers to the common questions.
Getting started
- What is Wetin?
- A place to ask questions, share gist and plan link ups with people in your area. You must be 18 or over.
- Is Wetin free?
- Yes. Wetin is free to join and free to use: reading, voting, posting, replying, link ups and matches.
- Do I need an account?
- No. You can read and vote in polls as a guest. You need an account to post, reply, upvote, join a link up or shoot your shot.
- How do I sign up?
- Tap Sign up, then continue with Google or ask for a six-digit code by email. There is no password to remember.
- Can I use Wetin like an app?
- Yes. After the tour, tap Add to put Wetin on your home screen. You can also add it later from Settings or with your browser's Add to Home Screen.
- When does Wetin ask about notifications?
- After your first post, vote or story follow, Wetin asks if you want to hear when people reply or a story you follow gets a new part. Tap Allow alerts to turn them on. Not now asks again later. You can switch alerts off any time in Settings. On an iPhone, add Wetin to your Home Screen first.
- How do I use dark mode?
- Open Settings and find Appearance. System follows your phone. Light and Dark stay as you pick them.
- How do I change my area?
- On For you, tap the area name in the dark strip at the top of the feed and pick another one. All Lagos shows every area.
- How do I close a panel that slides up?
- Pull it down from the handle at the top. The close button and a tap outside the panel work too.
- What is the Ambassador badge?
- Ambassadors are members the Wetin team has chosen to share Wetin. The Ambassador badge on a profile shows who they are. It gives no extra say over posts or members.
- Can I see the page tips again?
- Yes. Open Settings and find Page tips. Show me around again replays them, and you can turn them off there too.
Story cards
- What is a story card?
- A post that grows. Part 1 is the original story. The card opens on a dark cover with the story's name and which part it is, such as Part 1 of 3. When something happens, the author adds an update. A row of beads shows how many parts there are, and a line such as Part 4 is out tells you when the newest part came. Look for the dark Wetin Next? tag.
- Where do I find all the stories?
- On For you, a Wetin Next? strip sits under the topics. A green dot and Stories Dropping Now mean a story has moved today, and the blue number is how many moved in the last day. Tap it to open Wetin Next?, which has only story cards. Switch between All (newest part first), Newest first (brand-new stories) and Following (stories you follow). The dark Wetin Next? tag on any story card opens it too.
- How do I start one?
- Tap Post, then choose Story card under What are you posting? What you write is Part 1. It can be an Ask, a Gist or a Link up. Pick a topic for your story (Other if none fits), so people find it in Wetin Next?.
- How do I add an update?
- Open your story and tap Add update. You can call a part The Aftermath for the big outcome, and you can conclude the story after any part. Only you can add parts to your story.
- Why are some parts blue and others grey?
- Blue means you have not read that part yet. It turns grey once you open it, and stays grey on all your devices when you are signed in. When the author adds a new part, only that part is blue.
- What happens when I swipe in full screen?
- Swipe left for the next part and right to go back. The arrows at the bottom do the same, and the top shows which part you are on. Tap the words to open the whole story. Swipe up or down to move to the next or previous post in your feed.
- What does Follow story do?
- You get a notification each time the author adds a part. Replies and votes do not notify you, and you do not follow the author.
- Where do I find the stories I follow?
- Tap Following in Wetin Next?. They are also on the Following stories tab in Notifications, where you can unfollow any of them.
- Can I reply to a story?
- Yes. Open a part, then upvote it, reply to it, or answer it with Reply as card. Your reply card is your own take and does not become part of the story.
- What does concluded mean?
- The author has finished the story. You can still read it, and the author can reopen it to add more.
Posting and replying
- What are Ask, Gist and Link up?
- Ask is a question, with a poll if you want one. Gist is a story or update. Link up is a plan to meet in a public place.
- What is the difference between Reply and Reply as card?
- Reply is a quick comment under a post. Reply as card is a post of your own that answers another post. It shows in the feed and under the original.
- Why was my post not accepted?
- Posts can't include phone numbers or street addresses. Remove them and try again.
- Why does my sticker not send straight away?
- A sticker waits in your reply box, with any words you add, until you tap Send. You can pick a different one or clear it first.
- How do I delete a post or reply?
- Open the “...” menu on your post, or go to Settings, then Your activity.
- What makes a post Ask of the Day or Gist of the Day?
- It is the most active post of that kind today, and sits at the top of its tab for the day.
Link ups
- How do I join a link up?
- Tap I'm in. The person who posted it can see you are coming. Tap again to leave.
- Where should we meet?
- Always a public place. Use the venue's name, never a home address.
Shoot your shot and matches
- What does Shoot your shot do?
- It tells someone, privately, that you are interested. They see that someone in your area shot their shot, not who. They can pay to see who sent it, and we tell you before you send.
- Can I see who shot their shot at me?
- Yes. You can pay to see who sent one, a few, or everyone waiting. Extras has the prices. Shooting back to match is always free.
- Do I have to pay to find out who shot at me?
- No. Shoot your shot at people you like, on their Gists and Link ups. If they already shot at you, you match straight away and you both find out. Free. Paying only shows you who it was without waiting for a match.
- What is a priority shot?
- A shot that is not anonymous. The person sees your username straight away, at the top of their list, marked Priority shot. Your other shots stay anonymous. Extras has the price.
- What is Wetin Spotlight?
- A paid boost that shows one of your posts to more people in an area for a short time, labelled Spotlighted. Choose "Boost this post" in your post's menu, or go to Extras.
- Do extras renew?
- No. Each extra is a one-off payment.
- When do I get a match?
- When the person you shot at shoots back at you, on any of your posts. Then a chat opens under Matches.
- What is the Quick quiz?
- A game inside a match chat. Either of you taps Play and picks Friends or Romantic. You each answer the same 10 questions in your own time. When you both finish, you see your match %, what you agreed on and a few things to talk about.
- How do I end a chat?
- Open the chat and tap End conversation. You can also block the person.
Safety and privacy
- Who can see my date of birth?
- Nobody. Other people see your gender, your area and, if you allow it, an age range such as 25–29.
- How do I report or block someone?
- Open the “...” menu on their post, or tap their username. Blocked people cannot message you or shoot their shot at you.
- What happens when I report a post?
- A moderator checks it against the Community guidelines. The person is not told who reported them.
- How do I delete my account?
- Go to Settings and tap Delete account.
