Privacy at a Glance

We want this Privacy Policy to empower you to make better choices about how you use Wetin. Here's what you need to know:

Wetin is a public platform

Wetin is a public feed. Anyone can see your posts and reply cards, with your username and your area. Your username is public, and it can be a pseudonym. Shots, matches and chats are not public.

We collect minimal information

We collect minimal information that can be used to identify you. You can share as much or as little about yourself as you want.

We use data to make Wetin better

Data we collect is used primarily to provide our Services, which focus on helping people in the same area talk, vote and meet. We don't sell your personal data to third parties, including data brokers.

Privacy rights are for everyone

All our users get privacy rights, not just those in select countries. Anyone can request a copy of their data, account deletion, or information about our policies. We comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and GDPR for EU users.

Definitions and Interpretation

To help you understand this Privacy Policy, here are definitions of key terms we use throughout:

"Account" means the account you create to access certain features of Wetin, identified by your unique username.

"Area" means the area you choose for your account (for example Lekki or Yaba). It is shown on your posts and used to filter the feed.

"Content" means any information, text, links, poll options, or other materials posted to or appearing on the Services.

"Cookies" means small data files stored on your device by your web browser, used to remember your preferences and improve your experience.

"Wetin" refers to our platform and all associated Services, owned and operated by KOBI PY LTD.

"Match" means the private connection created when two members have each sent the other a shot. A match opens a text chat between those two members only.

"Post" means a card you submit to Wetin: an Ask (optionally with a poll), a Gist, a Link up, or a reply card that builds on another post. Posts are text.

"Services" means Wetin's website, installable web app, emails, push notifications, and all other online products and services provided by KOBI PY LTD.

"Username" means the unique identifier you choose when creating your Account. It is publicly visible and does not need to be your real name.

"Vote" or "Voting" means upvoting a post or choosing an option in a poll. Wetin has no downvotes.

"You" or "User" means any person who accesses or uses the Services, whether or not you have created an Account.

1. Wetin Is a Public Platform

Much of the information on Wetin is public and accessible to everyone, even without an account.

When you submit content (such as a post, poll or reply card) to a public part of the Services, any visitors and users can see that content, the username associated with it, and the date and time you submitted it. That content may also appear in search results on internet search engines or in responses from AI chatbots. You should consider the public nature of the Services before posting. By using the Services, you are directing us to share this information publicly and freely.

Wetin does not have public profile pages. Your username and area are shown on each of your posts, and anyone can open a post by its link, including through a shared preview.

Some things are never public: the email address you sign in with, which option you chose in a poll (only totals are shown), the shots you send (not even the person you sent one to can see it unless you match), and your chats.

Wetin does not offer a public API or developer access to its content.

Seeing who shot their shot, and priority shots

This section applies only where Wetin offers these paid extras. Where it does, it adds to what is said above about shots.

When you shoot your shot at someone, they are told that someone did, and roughly where and when, but not who. Your username and area are shown to them in three cases only: if they shoot their shot at you too (a match), if they pay to see who sent that shot, or if you chose to send it as a priority shot. You are told this on the screen where you send a shot, every time, before you send it.

Shots sent before we introduced paying to see who sent them stay hidden for good. Nobody can pay to see who sent them, and we will not change that.

As well as who sent a shot, to whom and when, we record that you were shown the sentence above before sending it. We use that record for one thing: to decide whether that shot can ever be shown.

A priority shot is not anonymous. If you buy one and choose to send a shot as one, the person you send it to sees your username and area straight away, at the top of their list. You choose this for each shot; your other shots are not affected.

When someone pays to see who sent a shot, they see your username and area for that shot. Nothing else about you is added. If a purchase is refunded, your name is hidden again, though the other person may already have seen it.

Payments are taken by our payment company on its own page. Wetin does not see or store card numbers or bank details. We keep a record of what was bought, the amount, when, and whether it was paid, failed, cancelled or refunded, for as long as tax and consumer law require.

We never send who shot at whom, or who paid to see whom, to our analytics provider.

2. Information We Collect

The information we collect falls into three categories: information you provide directly, information we collect automatically as you use Wetin, and information we receive from third parties.

2.1 Information You Provide to Us

Account Information

You don't need an account to browse Wetin or to vote in a poll. If you create an account, you sign in with Google or with a one-time code sent to your email address, so we hold that email address. Wetin does not use passwords and does not ask for a phone number. You choose a username and an area, confirm that you are 18 or older, and accept the Terms. We do not collect a Bank Verification Number (BVN) or an identity document. Wetin does not have profile photos or bios.

Public Content You Submit

Public content includes your posts, reply cards, poll questions and options, link-up details (place, time and spots), and related metadata such as the time and your area. This content is publicly visible. Before a post is saved we check its text for phone numbers and street addresses and block it if we find one.

Private Content You Submit

Chat messages are visible only to you and the member you matched with, and to our safety team if a chat is reported. Reports you send us, with any note you add, are visible only to our team.

Actions You Take

We collect information about your actions on Wetin, including your upvotes, your poll votes, the link ups you join, the shots you send, the reports you submit and the members you block.

Transactional Information

Wetin has no payments, so we collect no payment information. If we offer paid services in the future, we will update this policy first.

2.2 Information We Collect Automatically

Device and Log Information

We collect information about your device and network connection when you access Wetin.

Usage Information

We collect information about how you use Wetin, including pages visited, the filters you choose, votes and upvotes given, shares, and which features you use. If you vote in a poll without an account, we store a random identifier in a cookie on your device and a one-way hash of it and of your network address, so that each device votes once and automated voting can be limited.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar browser storage to keep you signed in, to remember that onboarding is complete, to count one poll vote per device, to remember that a device has passed a human check, and to understand how Wetin is used. Wetin shows no advertising and uses no advertising cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

Location Information

Wetin is organised by area. You choose your area from a list. If you choose to use your device's location to find your area, your browser asks for permission first; we use the coordinates once to pick the nearest area and then discard them. We store only the area and whether it was found by location, never your coordinates. We do not track your location in the background.

Public Content Related to You

Counts that result from your actions are public: the number of upvotes on a post, the totals for each poll option, and how many people have joined a link up. Who did each of those things is not shown.

Inferred Information

Wetin does not currently infer attributes such as age range, gender or interests. The "For you" feed shows posts for the area you select, in Hot or New order. If we later personalise it using the topics and areas you choose and how you engage, we will update this policy first.

2.3 Information from Third Parties

Linked Services

If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address from Google. We do not receive your contacts or post on your behalf.

Advertising Partners

Wetin has no advertising and receives no information from advertising partners. If that changes, we will update this policy first.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use information about you to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Services
• Show you content for your area, and rank posts in the Hot order
• Confirm that you meet the age requirement in our Terms of Service
• Protect the safety of Wetin and our users, including blocking suspected spammers, addressing abuse, enforcing our Terms of Service, and complying with applicable law
• Prevent vote manipulation and inauthentic behavior
• Research and develop new features and services
• Send you sign-in codes, technical notices, security alerts and support messages, and, if you turn them on, push notifications about replies, matches, chats and link ups
• Provide customer service and respond to your requests
• Communicate with you about products, services, and features (you can opt out of promotional communications)
• Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities to improve the Services

4. How We Share Your Information

In addition to public content being visible as described in Section 1, we may share information in the following ways:

With Your Consent

We may share information about you with your consent or at your direction.

With Linked Services

Wetin does not share your information with a service you sign in with, beyond what is needed to sign you in.

With Service Providers

We share information with vendors, consultants, and service providers who need access to carry out work for us, including:

• Hosting, database and sign-in providers who store our data and run the Services
• A human-verification provider that helps us tell people from automated traffic
• An AI provider that reviews the text of new posts for safety (see Section 11)
• Analytics and error-monitoring providers
• Push-notification services run by your browser or device maker, if you turn notifications on

These service providers are subject to confidentiality and security requirements and may only use your personal data as necessary to provide services to us.

To Comply with the Law

We may share information if we believe disclosure is required by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements. We will attempt to provide you with prior notice when legally permitted. Our Transparency Report (when available) will have additional information about government requests.

In Emergencies

We may share information if we believe it's necessary to prevent imminent and serious bodily harm to a person.

To Enforce Our Rights

We may share information if we believe your actions are inconsistent with our Terms of Service or other policies, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of Wetin and others.

Aggregated or De-identified Information

We may share aggregated or anonymized information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you. For example, we may show the total number of upvotes a post received without identifying individual voters.

5. How We Protect Your Information

We take measures to protect information about you from loss, theft, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. For example, we use HTTPS encryption while information is being transmitted. We enforce technical and administrative access controls to limit which employees have access to non-public personal information.

Wetin does not use passwords. You can help by keeping the email or Google account you sign in with secure.

We store information for as long as necessary for the purposes for which we collected it. We may retain certain information for legitimate business purposes or as required by law. For example, if your account is suspended for violating our policies, we may store identifiers (such as your email address) to prevent you from creating new accounts.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have choices about how to protect and limit the collection, use, and sharing of information about you. KOBI PY LTD does not discriminate against users for exercising their data protection rights.

Accessing and Changing Your Information

You can see your username and change your area in Settings. You can request a copy of your personal information by emailing support@wetin.app.

Deleting Your Account

You can delete any of your own posts from the menu on the post. To delete your whole account, email support@wetin.app from the address you sign in with. When an account is deleted, its posts, reply cards, votes, shots, matches and chat messages are deleted with it. We may retain certain information for legitimate business purposes or as required by law.

Controlling Cookies

Most web browsers accept cookies by default. You can usually set your browser to remove or reject cookies. Note that removing or rejecting cookies may affect the availability and functionality of our Services.

Controlling Promotional Communications

Wetin does not currently send promotional email. If that changes, every such message will include a way to opt out. We may still send non-promotional communications about your account or use of the Services.

Controlling Mobile Notifications

Wetin asks before sending push notifications, and only after you choose to turn them on. If you do, we store a push address for that browser or device so we can reach it. You can turn notifications off in Settings or in your device settings at any time, and we then delete that address.

Controlling Location Information

You can change your area in Settings at any time, and you can refuse or withdraw the browser's location permission; choosing an area from the list always works.

7. International Data Transfers

KOBI PY LTD is based in Nigeria, and we process and store information on servers located in Nigeria and other countries. By accessing or using the Services, you consent to the processing, transfer, and storage of information in and to Nigeria and other countries, where you may not have the same privacy rights as in your country of residence.

When we transfer personal data of users in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission or other transfer mechanisms deemed adequate under applicable laws.

KOBI PY LTD is committed to complying with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and applicable international data protection standards.

8. Additional Information for EEA, UK, and Swiss Users

If you live in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Request access to your personal data
• Request rectification of inaccurate personal data
• Request erasure of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
• Request restriction of processing
• Request data portability
• Object to processing
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
• Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority

Legal Basis for Processing

We collect and process information where we have a legal basis, including:

• To fulfill our contract with you (provide the Services)
• For legitimate interests (preventing fraud, network security, enforcing our Terms, protecting legal rights, research and development, personalizing and marketing the Services)
• With your consent for specific purposes
• To comply with legal obligations

9. Children's Privacy

Wetin is only for users who are 18 years or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will take steps to delete that information and terminate the account. If you believe a user under 18 has created an account, please contact us at support@wetin.app.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you by revising the date at the top of the policy. If the changes are material, we may also notify you by email (if you've provided one) or through a notice on our Services. We encourage you to review the Privacy Policy regularly. By continuing to use our Services after changes become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised policy.

For users in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we may provide notice of material changes that affect your rights or obligations.

11. How We Use Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

KOBI PY LTD uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies to improve Wetin and provide you with a better experience.

We may use automated systems, including artificial intelligence (AI), to help operate our platform. The text of a new post is sent to an AI provider for a safety review, which can hide the post until a person reviews it. These systems assist with moderation, spam detection and user safety. They do not make legal or final decisions about your account, and all automated processes are subject to human oversight where necessary.

12. Data Retention

We retain personal and usage data for as long as necessary to provide our services, comply with legal obligations, enforce our Terms, and ensure platform safety. This includes account information, content, and limited technical identifiers. Data may be stored longer if needed for legal, security, or operational purposes.
