Each photograph had one line on the back: tipped well, stole a towel, cried in the bathroom but a nice person, argued about money. Forty photographs, forty notes. At the bottom, a picture of my friend Tobi, taken that very morning from the window outside. The date underneath was next Saturday. Everyone in the flat saw it at the same time.

We booked a Lekki short-let for my birthday. The host knew all our names before we arrived.

Under the bed was a box of photographs of earlier guests. Every one dated, with a short note.

The host called. He said, you found the box, good, that means you were paying attention.

The listing is gone. Tobi's bank got an alert for ₦400,000. Reference: Guest 42.
