A woman's voice came through. “Chuka, your wife must not find out about the baby.” Ada's heart stopped. Before she could respond, the woman added, “You promised you'd leave her after the money comes.” The call ended. Ada sat on the bed, staring at the phone. What money? What baby? And why was someone planning to take her husband away? At midnight, Chuka returned home. Ada pretended to be asleep while he quietly hid the phone inside his briefcase.

The following morning, she checked his briefcase while he showered. Inside, she found a hospital scan, a bank transfer receipt bearing her own name, and a photograph of Chuka standing beside a pregnant woman. On the back of the photograph, someone had written, "Thank you for keeping our secret. Only two weeks left.” Ada recognized the woman's face. It was her best friend, Ifeoma. But the real shock came when she read the date on the hospital scan.
